THE MGA FOUNDATION The Minnesota Grocers Association Foundation (MGAF) has established the MGAF Scholarship Program for all member employees and/or their dependents. As a member benefit, your program can “piggyback” on that application process. This is an alternative to establishing your own scholarship program and allows you to avoid the expense of producing brochures, applications, and paying administrative fees.
WHY SHOULD OUR COMPANY PARTICIPATE? Easy process. Because you are piggybacking on the MGAF’s application process, any of your employees who apply will be considered for the MGAF scholarship and your company’s piggyback scholarship. This will double their opportunities, while still only requiring them to complete one application.
Cost-savings. The Piggyback Scholarship Program makes it possible for members to have all the benefits of their own personalized scholarship program without the administrative costs.
Good public relations within your company. A scholarship program shows that you are taking an active interest in the education of your employees and their dependents, encouraging loyalty and improving your employee morale.
Builds employee loyalty. During the 2025-2026 program, Phoebe Johnson, whose father works at Jerry’s Enterprises, Inc., won two scholarships through the MGA’s application—one from the MGA Foundation and one from the Jerry’s Enterprises, Inc. Piggyback program.
Rewards deserving students. The MGA’s Piggyback Program began in 2009. Since then, twelve companies have awarded 785 Piggyback scholarships totaling $647,250.
